The Northern Arizona University mission is to provide an outstanding undergraduate residential education strengthened by research, graduate and professional programs, and sophisticated methods of distance delivery. NAU is a high research university with its main campus located on 740 acres in Flagstaff, Arizona. NAU-Yuma shares a campus with Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona and NAU-Community Campuses are located at nearly 35 sites throughout the state. The emphasis is on undergraduate education, but you will also find a wide range of graduate programs and research that extend to national concerns including biomedical sciences, environmental sciences, and engineering. More than 82 percent of full-time faculty members teach undergraduate courses and provide research and internship opportunities similar to those offered to graduate students.\r\n\r\nNorthern Arizona University promotes experiential learning within many of its educational programs. This type of education helps students draw meaning from their hands-on experiences and encourages problem solving skills and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nThe Applied Research and Development building is LEED Platinum rated, the highest possible, for its high-performance construction technology, energy efficiency and use of renewable energy resources. The W.A. Franke College of Business building and the Engineering and Technology Building are also LEED Gold certified.\r\n\r\nUniversity President John D. Haeger was a charter signatory of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment that addresses climate change. The organization’s goal is to lead higher education institutions toward a more balanced relationship with the natural environment to effectively meet human and economic needs.\r\n\r\nFlagstaff is located at the intersection of Interstates 17 and 40 in Northern Arizona. With a local airport and Amtrak station, it is an easy trip to campus. Campus visits are offered Monday through Friday mornings and on most Saturdays, and they feature an admission session and a walking tour. The university’s 740 acre main campus promotes sustainable practices and is home to several energy-efficient buildings certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.\r\n\r\nAccording to a special report released by Forbes magazine in August 2010,\r\nNorthern Arizona University ranks in the Top 100 America’s Best College Buys.
