Located in the heart of Portland’s Downtown Arts District, Maine College of Art is a dynamic college of art and design where students discover connections to a welcoming community of arts professionals and an opportunity to impact and enhance this community through their creative work. \r\n\r\nAt Maine College of Art, students find their art before they find their major. Students don’t declare their major until the end of their sophomore year. In the first two years, along with the traditional foundation work in color theory, drawing, 2-D and 3-D expression, MECA students take eight studio electives. \r\n\r\nWhile at MECA, you will discover: a supportive community of 430 students, 24/7 access to studio buildings, state-of-the-art facilities, individual work spaces for majors, extensive student exhibition space, 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and a vigorous curriculum with 12 majors and 3 minors.
