According to the school, Florida Southern College gives you the real-world experience that you crave and that prospective employers seek. Through guaranteed internships, student-faculty collaborative research and performance, service learning opportunities, and study abroad, Florida Southern will help you explore your passions, discover new ones, and prepare you to make a consequential impact on the world.\r\n\r\nFounded in 1885, FSC is a selective, private college with a national reputation for engaged learning. Located in Lakeland, Florida Southern is the state’s oldest private college and enrolls 2,000 undergraduates from 44 states and 31 countries. The 100-acre historic campus is home to the world’s largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.\r\n \r\nThe College offers 50 undergraduate majors as well as distinctive graduate programsin business administration, education, and nursing.\r\n\r\nAt FSC, all students are guaranteed an internship. In the heart of Florida’s high-tech corridor, the campus is ideally located for internships and job opportunities with leading corporations. At FSC, students tap into one of the largest job markets in the U.S. Our students intern with major employers, including Disney, Fox News, ESPN, Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, Augusta National Golf Club, the Detroit Tigers, Publix Super Markets, and NASA, to name a few. \r\n\r\nOpportunities abound for work experience on campus. The School of Education, for example, includes the FSC Preschool and Kindergarten Lab School, where education majors get first-hand experience in teaching preschool-age children. \r\n\r\nThe real-world experience that FSC students receive pays off: Within six months of graduation, 94% of graduates report landing a great job or entering a prestigious graduate or professional school. Some signature programs, including pre-medicine, have a 100 percent placement rate.\r\n\r\nWith a 14:1 student/faculty ratio, you can count on your professors knowing your name and a lot more about you. Outside of the classroom, students and faculty members work together on research projects and academic presentations. Whether you are testing the water quality in area lakes or presenting a paper at a regional accounting conference, our faculty members make you a partner in their research and your education.\r\n\r\nStudents also have opportunities to perform through the Festival of Fine Arts, an annual series of concerts, plays, musicals, and more featuring nationally renowned artists as well as our own talented students and faculty members. Recently, music students have shared the stage with opera singers from the Met and jazz trumpeter Marvin Stamm.\r\n\r\nVolunteerism and service learning play major roles in our campus culture. Whether volunteering with the philanthropic Greek organizations or taking a service-learning class, our students are engaged in the community and making it a better place to live.\r\n\r\nBeginning with students who entered in Fall 2010, all students will be guaranteed a travel experience in their junior or senior year at no charge beyond the usual course credit fees. In addition, the College’s popular May Option study abroad program gives students the opportunity to earn credit while studying in England, China, France, South America and other exciting locations.\r\n\r\nIn a subtropical setting that sees more than 330 sunny days a year, life in the balmy outdoors plays an enormous role on the FSC campus. With beautiful Lake Hollingsworth just across the street, water-skiing, sailing, and kayaking are popular pastimes. \r\n\r\nThe College’s athletic teams are Division II powerhouses that boast 27 national championships. And about 70% of FSC students tackle sports themselves on the intramural fields, participating in everything from basketball to sand volleyball to Ultimate Frisbee.
