According to the school, Emporia State University is a centrally located, comprehensive, and student-centered institution whose central mission is to develop lifelong learning skills, impart society’s cultural heritage, educate, and prepare students for professional careers and advanced study. Faculty, staff, and students interact in an atmosphere of freedom of inquiry and expression. Educational opportunities are found in majors in art and sciences, business, education, and library and information management, with programs of national distinction in Education, Business, Library and Information Management, and the Ph.D. in Library and Information Management. During 2010-2011, almost 600 online courses were delivered, including two complete undergraduate program, eight complete graduate programs, two certificate programs, and four teaching endorsement programs.
