Elmira College is a traditional, fully residential liberal arts college with a historical association with Mark Twain. In all majors, even several pre-professional programs, students complete a foundation in liberal arts and sciences. Ninety percent of students are traditional college age and live on campus in dormitories, apartments, and houses. Forty Percent of students study abroad. Intensive study in required six-week spring term in April and May. Numerous student traditions bring students and faculty together. In coursework, emphasis on writing; on campus, strong emphasis on activities, including 26 athletic teams. All students attend performing arts events, and complete community service and internships.
